BOAT MAINTENANCE / FLEET
Within the Sea Cadets we participate in many waterbourne activities. At Stonehaven Unit we offer a wide range of these activities and the chance to gain internationally recognised Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and British Canoe Union (BCU) qualifications through our RYA Training Centre.
In order for us to be able to take part in these activities, we at TS Carron require a large fleet of boats which are continually maintained to a high standard by our boats officer PO (SCC) Mathew Jackson.
Throughout the summer season when the boats are in the water, any minor repairs are made to keep them fully seaworthy. During the winter months of each year when the boats are out of the water they are all cleaned thouroughly and any repairs that need done are carried out. The hulls are scrubbed clean of all barnicles and seaweed before they get sanded down, inside and out, and painted/varnished in time for our annual inspection by the Area Officer and being launched for the upcoming boating season.
Cadets who attend the weekly boat maintenance evening can use this as a skill towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Our fleet consists of the following boats;
