Here you will be able to find out what is going on at our unit whether it be a competition, fundraiser or a meeting. Please also check the forum for any updates or new events that are planned.
PARENTS & SUPPORTERS ASSOCIATION / FUNDRAISING
Bag Packs - Let us help you by packing your shopping. Stonehaven Sea Cadets regularly participate in bag packs at the local Somerfield supermarket.
Quiz Nights - Dust away the cobwebs from your brain and take part in one of our enjoyable quiz nights where a fun evening is had by all. In 2009 one quiz night included a sponsored shave to help raise funds for the purchase of a new safety boat - Mike Irvine lost the moustache he had sported since 1971 and Kenny Johnstone went without his beard for the first time in 30 years!
Christmas Card Delivery - Don't have the time to deliver your christmas cards yourself or don't want to pay Royal Mail prices for stamps? Then allow T.S. Carron to hand deliver your cards for you locally in Stonehaven for a small fee. Details of collection points around Stonehaven are announced in the local press nearer to Christmas.
Fee'in Market - Each year the P&SA run a stall at the annual traditional market held in Stonehaven Market Square on the first weekend in June.
Sponsored Rows - Fancy taking to the high seas to do some team building and help a local charitable organisation at the same time? Every year the cadets have participated in a sponsored row but now Stonehaven SCC organise an annual Corporate Sponsored Row - an ideal way to support our charitable aims and has proven to be very popular with local companies or even people trying to recapture their youth! Sponsored row typically takes place in the last weekend in June.
Folk Festival - In recent years the P&SA have provided a BBQ and cadets have been involved in marcshalling duties at the annual Stonehaven Folk Festival. The festival is usually held in July.
Ceilidhs - Let your hair down and enjoy a Scottish Ceilidh. Events are organised by the P&SA and publicised locally.
Remembrance - Every November the cadets take to the Town Square to raise funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal - The Royal British Legion is the UK’s leading charity providing financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants.
UNIT MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
The UMC are raising funds for our planned new headquarters on a continual basis. There have been projects such as a specially commissioned limited edition paintings of the Sea Cadet Association's TS Royalist sailing off Dunnottar Castle, Stonehaven. If you wish to find out about any upcoming events or think you can help in any way please get in touch with us.
In 2008 fundraising began for the purchase of a new Safety Boat for the cadets, and in March 2009 this was achieved through the kind donations of individuals and corporate sponsors, and of course the amazing sacrifice of Mike Irvine and Kenny Johnstone (see above)! The new boat should be in service for the 2009 boating season.
SEA CADET CORPS COMPETITION
We reguarly compete at 3 different levels of competition wihin the Sea Cadet Corps. Stonehaven Unit has throughout time continually proven to be a competition winning unit (which can be seen in our history section) and we have taken part in many competitions.
Competition usually starts at District level, progressing on to Area and if successful, representation of Area at National events.
There are 5 units in Grampian District, one of 11 Districts in the Northern Area, which in turn is one of 6 Areas comprising the Sea Cadet Corps. Northern Area covers Scotland, North East England and Northern Ireland. Overall, there are 390+ units in the Corps. |
