Here you should be able to find answers to any questions you may have about us and our organisation.
WHEN DO WE MEET?
We hold our parade night every Monday evening from 6.45pm until 9.15pm. Depending on the programme for the week there may be other nights that we meet, times vary depending on the activity.
WHERE DO WE MEET?
We meet at our Unit Headquarters. This is located on the High Street, Stonehaven. It is located next to the Harbour Bakery in the old Episcopalian school. Depending on the weekly programme there may be times where we meet at another location, the location will depend on the activity taking place.
HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE?
We have two different sections within our unit. We have a Junior Section for ages 10 to 12. The other section is the Full Sea Cadet section for youths aged from 12 years to 18 years. If you are interested in joining as a member of unit staff, you must be at least 18 years of age.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The cost of Sea Cadets is a modest £5 per month. This can be paid either directly to us via Direct Debit or alternatively it can be paid on our first Monday evening parade night of the month. The £5 a month "subs" allows you to participate in all the weekly activities that we do, including Sailing, Power Boating, Kayaking, 5-a-side football and swimming. Week and weekend courses run locally may have an additional charge to cover running costs.
CAN I LEAVE THE UNIT WHEN I WANT?
You can leave the unit at any time, although most choose to stay and enjoy the wide range of fun and exciting opportunities we provide!
CAN PARENTS OR GUARDIANS VISIT THE UNIT?
Parents and guardians are always welcome to look around our unit and speak to the unit staff.
CAN PARENTS OR GUARDIANS GET INVOLVED?
There is a Parents and Supporter's committee which raises funds for the Unit throughout the year. If you are looking for more involvement, and are keen to gain the appropriate qualifications you can apply to join as a member of staff for the unit.
WHO RUNS THE UNIT?
The daily running of the unit is the responsibility of the Officer in Charge and their staff. There is a management committee under a chairperson, which oversees the maintenance of the building, transport and fundraising for the unit.
DO I HAVE TO BE ABLE TO SWIM?
No, you are given the opportunity to learn through the cadets.
